It is a very bad title for a book: The
Antipope by Robert Rankin. Yet, the
sleazy creepy tramp is a really bad person.
Not sure when the book was written. But it seems to be a typical English pub
goings-on type of book that I think was popular in British culture in the 70s
and 80s (based on my exposure to BBC tv or radio programming from that time
period that has made it to the US) ... a set of pub denizens and their
"adventures" -- this time involving weird beans acquired in a trade
for a car, the sleazy creepy tramp, a "rest home" for old sailors
that has never had a guest, "working" at the allotments and of course
meeting at the pub for a pint or two ... or four.
Ended up listening to this book because the 4th book of the
Brentford trilogy is called The Sprouts
of Wrath. I don't know why but that
title intrigues me ... LOL!
